Tuesday, 15 April 2025 WINGS FOR LIFE GROUP RUN WITH THE APP ORGANISED BY UP

For several years now, the first Sunday in May (4 May) has been marked by the Wings for life run, which takes place in three ways - at a larger event, where runners are chased by a pursuit vehicle (this will be in Ljubljana) or with an app. This can be used by anyone who is going to run on Sunday at 13:00, or you can join one of the "app runs" organised by the app, where you are chased by a virtual car. This year, for the third time, this type of run will take place by the sea, organised by Sport UPwhich is responsible for the recreation of students and staff at the University of Primorska. We will run from the building of the UP FTŠ Turistica to the last pier of the Portorož beach (short run, turning point after 2 km), to Seče (medium run, 4.4 km one way) or to the Sečovlje Salt Pans (8 km).

With the run, we want to first of all encourage students and staff to enjoy additional recreation and pleasant socialising, and above all to help the charity project, as we are aware of the importance of supporting good research projects. We would like to invite local and regional runners who have not chosen to run in the capital but would prefer to run in the company of others to join us. And we will all follow the slogan of the run - I run for those who can't.

We will be especially inspired by the SportUP Wings for life World Run 2025 -App Campus Run UP ambassador, namely our alumnus Aljoša Habjan, a graduate of Applied Kinesiology at UP FVZ . Aljoša was severely injured during his studies and became a tetraplegic. Nevertheless, he persevered and passed all the missing courses and subjects and successfully defended his final thesis entitled "Physical/sport activity of tetraplegics" in December 2022, under the mentorship of Assoc. Prof. Dr. Matej Plevnik. His story about the accident that did not stop him will surely be a motivation for all of us.

You can REGISTER FOR THE RUN via the run app, where you can also make a donation of 18,00 euros. There are no other costs for joining the organised run, and the UP Faculty of Education will also provide animation and childcare for the runners' children (from the age of 5, with prior registration HERE). After the run, all runners will be offered a drink and a snack on the terrace of the UP Turistica, where they can mingle and share impressions.

A BUS SHUTTLE FROM KOPER TO PORTOROŽ IS ORGANISED FOR ALL UP STUDENTS (REGISTER HERE)

Departure from Koper to Portorož 11.00  (meeting point is in front of the covered Olympic pool in Koper) / Return trip Portorož-Koper 17.00

Not a runner, but interested in helping? We need hard-working hands to help direct runners along the route, hand out water and other refreshments and food, and help set up the event with us. Are you coming? Please sign up here.

Participants are invited to present their final theses from undergraduate or master's studies—these may include diploma or master's theses, dissertations, group projects, seminars, or topics of interest—either as oral presentations or posters. Submissions will be reviewed by a committee of professors and assistants from UP FAMNIT, who will select the presentations to be featured at the conference.

By participating in the conference, students will receive a certificate of participation, and their work will be cataloged in COBISS, serving as a valuable reference when searching for employment or applying for scholarships.

Professors from various universities will also deliver lectures at the conference, showcasing their work and ongoing projects. This is a great opportunity for students to meet potential mentors and expand their network of contacts.

The conference will be held at the University of Primorska in Koper, at the Faculty of Mathematics, Natural Sciences, and Information Technologies, from September 18 to 20, 2025.

It will feature two modules: biological and psychological.

Thursday, 10 April 2025 More Choices, More Opportunities: New International Learning Options for Students at UP and UNITS

The University of Primorska (UP) and the University of Trieste (UNITS) have signed a significant agreement enabling the mutual recognition of elective courses between the master's programmes in Data Science (UP) and Data Science and Artificial Intelligence (UNITS). Starting from the academic year 2025/2026, students from both institutions will be able to enrich their academic experience by selecting electives from the partner university's course offerings.

For example, UP students will have access to a diverse range of courses such as Advanced Deep Learning and Kernel Methods, Bayesian Statistics, Natural Language Processing, Reinforcement Learning, and Computer Vision and Pattern Recognition. Conversely, UNITS students will be able to explore courses at UP including Mining Massive Data, Graph Algorithms, Computational Social Science, and Big Data in Structural Bioinformatics.

The agreement ensures automatic credit recognition under the European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System (ECTS), further supporting student mobility and simplifying the academic recognition of coursework completed abroad. This initiative strengthens the academic cooperation and programme development between the two universities and expands the international study opportunities available within the Transform4Europe (T4EU) alliance, of which both UP and UNITS are active members.

In addition, a joint double degree master’s programme in data science is currently in development, promising to offer students an even more integrated and in-depth international education experience.
