Wednesday, 27 November 2024 The first video of Famnits' excursion into the mathematical universe 2024/25 in now available: To Infinity and Beyond

You are invited to watch the first video of this year's series FamnitsExcursion into the mathematical universe: To Infinity and Beyond. The lecture was delivered by Dr. René Rodríguez Aldama (UP FAMNIT and UP IAM). The lecture took place live and via the ZOOM platform.

About the lecture: In this talk, the lecturer presented the concept of infinity, which plays an important role in our society and philosophy. The lecturer explained the definition of infinity as used in mathematics and explored some of its forms and implications. From demonstrating that there are several types of infinity to partitioning a pea and reassembling it to create the sun, mathematical infinity exhibits many interesting properties—some of which are perhaps counterintuitive or paradoxical.

About the lecturer: René Rodríguez Aldama was born in 1994 in La Piedad, Michoacan, Mexico. He received a B.S. degree in physics and mathematics from the Michoacan University of Saint Nicholas of Hidalgo (UMSNH), Morelia, Mexico, in 2016. René obtained a joint M.S. degree in pure mathematics from the National Autonomous University of Mexico and UMSNH in 2018, where his mathematical interests were set theory, logic and topology. In 2022, he received a PhD degree in mathematics from the University of Primorska, Koper, Slovenia. Since 2022, he has been a Researcher with the Faculty of Mathematics, Natural Sciences and Information Technologies, University of Primorska, and the Andrej Marušič Institute. His current research interests include algebra, coding theory, combinatorics, and cryptology.

The event was organized as part of the European Researchers' Night project.

The initiative is promoted by the European Union to bring science closer to society and increase young people's interest in science. The European Researchers' Night takes place simultaneously in 23 countries and over 400 cities across Europe and beyond.

The project oooScience! - Fake News and Conspiracy Theories? Let's Empower (Ourselves for) Science! is funded under the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions through the HORIZON-MSCA-2023-CITIZENS-01-01 call: European Researchers' Night and Researchers at Schools 2024–2025. The project is financed by the European Union.
