Thursday, 14 March 2024 Brain Awareness Week
How to enhance intimacy in romantic relationships? Is sexual education in primary school sufficient to fully understand sexuality? These and many other questions were discussed together with experts from various fields at this year's Brain Awareness Week at UP FAMNIT.
Brain Awareness Week is an international initiative that takes place every year in the third week of March. During this time, various educational events are held throughout Slovenia, aimed at raising awareness among the general public and professionals about the latest findings in the field of human brain and nervous system research. Under the auspices of the Slovenian Society for Neuroscience, SiNAPSA, a diverse range of lectures, workshops for younger and older audiences, roundtable discussions, and film evenings with discussions are organized.
A series of events was organized by students of biopsychology and psychology in collaboration with the Association of Biopsychology Students in Koper. In addition to the main events in Ljubljana, Brain Awareness Week took place at UP FAMNIT from Tuesday, March 12, to Friday, March 15.
Leila Winkler and Larisa Lara Pohorec, both graduates of Biopsychology at UP FAMNIT, were the coordinators of the group organizing the events at UP FAMNIT. Students of biopsychology, psychology, and young employees of UP FAMNIT actively participated in event preparation.
The common theme of this year's events revolved around topics related to sexuality, intimacy, and eroticism. During the lectures, participants gained insight into addiction to online pornography and how mindfulness can help us in dealing with these issues. Additionally, some myths that arose due to inadequate sexual education at home and in schools were clarified.
