PUBLIC TENDER FOR YOUNG RESEARCHER CANDIDATES FOR THE YEAR 2021
The purpose of this Public Tender is the selection of the candidates for young researchers to be trained at the University of Primorska Andrej Marušič Institute (UP IAM), Faculty of Mathematics, natural Sciences and Information Technologies (UP FAMNIT) and Faculty of management (UP FM), for obtaining a doctorate of science.
Mentors and research fields
Candidates may apply for available position of a young researcher with selected mentors in the selected fields of science and research according to the decision on the selection of mentors for the year 2021 on the basis of the Public call for the selection of mentors positions within research programmes in the year 2021 N° of notification 6318-18/2020-2 dated 18 January 2021 and confirmed by Slovenian Research Agency N° of notification 6316-18/2020-132, dated 31 May 2021:
- Marko Orel, Mathematics - Algebra, discrete mathematics, probability and game theory
- Vito Vitrih, Mathematics - Mathematical modelling and encryption: from theoretical concepts to real-life applications
- Vita Poštuvan, Psychiatry- Alive? Alive! Research and prevention of suicide
- Suzana Laporšek, Economics - Management of education and employability in knowledge society
Only one candidate per mentor can be selected. In case more candidates compete, they will be ranked according to an overall grade achieved in all the selection criteria. The candidate selected will be the highest rated candidate. If the selected candidate resigns or fails to submit the required documents by the deadline specified in the Public Tender, the next candidate shall be admitted according to the overall grade achieved.

POSTDOCTORAL POSITIONS
Postdoctoral position in mathematics – mentor: Prof. Dragan Marušič, PhD
Applicants must possess a PhD in mathematics. Expertise in algebraic graph theory is required. The project will investigate several key problems within algebraic graph theory, with a focus on:
- hamiltonicity problem of vertex-transitive graphs;
- existence of semiregular automorphisms in vertex-transitive graph;
- symmetries in graphs via rigid cells and even/odd dichotomy.

Postdoctoral position in mathematics – mentor: Prof. Bojan Kuzma, PhD
- Applicants must possess a PhD in mathematics.
- The project will mainly focus on Preserver Problems and the applications of graph theory in solving them. It often turns out that some universal properties within a given algebraic category are rigid in the sense that the bijections which preserve these properties are induced by isomorphisms between objects of the underlying category.
- One of the goals will be to study the rigidity of natural relations, such as commutativity or various relations of orthogonality on normed spaces, determine the basic invariants of the corresponding graphs and classify their homomorphisms.

Postdoctoral position in mathematics - mentor: Prof. István Kovács, PhD
Applicants must possess a PhD in mathematics. Expertise in algebraic graph theory is required. The project will investigate several key problems within algebraic graph theory, with a focus on:
- Cayley isomorphism problem;
- characterization/classification of arc-transitive Cayley graphs;
- symmetries of maps.
