Call for elections

In its 4th regular session on 17 April 2023, the Senate of UP FAMNIT adopted a Decision on the Call for the Regular Election of the Dean of UP FAMNIT, which includes a schedule for the election procedure. The decision also establishes the electoral commission.

Candidate eligibility for the position of Deantop

A candidate for the position of the Dean of the University of Primorska must be employed as a lecturer (assistant professor, associate professor, full professor) at the University of Primorska and have a permanent employment contract with the University of Primorska. The candidate must have at least a half-time employment contract with the member institution of the University of Primorska where they are running for office.

Eligibility to votetop

In accordance with the provisions of the Act on Higher Education, the Statute of the University of Primorska and the Rules on the Election of Deans of the Member Institutions of the University of Primorska, the Dean is elected for a term of four years by three groups of voters:
- university teachers and researchers,
- students enrolled in the university member's study programmes, and
- other staff.

Eligibility to vote applies to all members of staff (university teachers, researchers and other staff) who have an employment contract with the University of Primorska of at least 25 % and who perform the majority of their work at the relevant University member institution (UP FAMNIT).

Candidacies - Eligible proposers and proposals for candidacytop

Candidates may be proposed by the departments of UP FAMNIT and the Student Council of UP FAMNIT.

A proposal for candidacy must include the following:

  • Nomination of a Candidate for the Position of the Dean of UP FAMNIT - Form 1 (Predlog za kandidata za dekana UP FAMNIT – obrazec 1),
  • Consent of the Candidate to the Nomination for the Position of the Dean of UP FAMNIT - Form 2 (Soglasje kandidata za dekana UP FAMNIT – obrazec 2),
  • The proposed work programme of the candidate.

The nomination documents must be sent to the Electoral Commission in a sealed envelope marked »Ne odpiraj – kandidatura za volitve dekana« no later than 12 pm (noon) on Wednesday, 17 May 2023.

Important dates and deadlinestop

  • Call for the regular election (date on which the election procedure begins): Monday, 17 April 2023
  • Deadline for the submission of nominations/proposals for the position of the Dean: Wednesday, 17 May 2023 (by 12 pm - noon)
  • Public presentation of candidates: from Thursday, 25 May, to Wednesday, 31 May 2023 
  • ADVANCE VOTING: Thursday, 22 June 2023, 9 am to 5 pm
  • ELECTION DAY (VOTING DAY): Thursday, 29 June 2023, 9 am to 5 pm
  • The Electoral Commission must submit the election report to the Senate of UP FAMNIT within 24 hours after the election.
  • Determination and publication of the election results and, if applicable, publication of the call for a second round of elections: by 5 July 2023.

Polling stationtop

Elections will be held at the headquarters of UP FAMNIT, Glagoljaška 8, 6000 Koper, in the FAMNIT-MP7 lecture hall (the ground floor). The polling station is open from 9 am to 5 pm.

List of candidatestop

The Electoral Commission for the Election of the Dean, at its first regular meeting on 18 May 2023, confirmed the LIST OF CANDIDATES for the position of the Dean of UP FAMNIT.

Two candidates have been nominated for the office of the Dean, namely (in alphabetical order of surnames):

  • Assoc. Prof. Ademir Hujdurović, nominated by three departments of UP FAMNIT - the Department of Mathematics, the Department of Applied Natural Sciences, and the Department of Information Sciences and Technologies;
  • Assoc. Prof. Vladimir Ivović, nominated by the Department of Biodiversity.

Public presentation of the candidatestop

The public presentation of the candidates will be held on Monday, 29 May at 10 am in the FAMNIT-VP3 lecture hall (Koper, Glagoljaška 8, 2nd floor). The presentations will be held in person.

Election resultstop

The Electoral Committee has released its final report, indicating the voter turnout for each group of voters as follows:

  • University teachers and researchers recorded a turnout of 81.4% (105 voters),
  • Students had a turnout of 2.4% (22 voters),
  • Other employees had a turnout of 81.5% (22 voters).

A total of 149 voters turned out to vote in the elections.

Based on the valid ballot papers counted, candidate Assoc. Prof. Ademir Hujdurović received 79.2% of the valid votes, while candidate Assoc. Prof. Vladimir Ivović received 20.8% of the valid votes. As a result, Assoc. Prof. Ademir Hujdurović will continue to serve as the Dean of UP FAMNIT for the next four-year term of office.

In the first half of July 2023, the Senate of UP FAMNIT is expected to hold an extraordinary meeting to adopt a decision on the election results. They will propose the appointment of Assoc. Prof. Ademir Hujdurović as the Dean of UP FAMNIT for the next term of office (23 November 2023 - 22 November 2027) to the Rector of the UP.
