The Faculty of Mathematics, Natural Sciences and Information Technologies is a member of the University of Primorska. While the very first efforts to found a Primorska university were made almost one hundred years ago, the new, third state-founded Slovenian university was established in 2003 not only in a Mediterranean area bordering Croatia and Italy, but also at a meeting point of international cultural and economic trends. 

With the establishment of the Faculty of Mathematics, Natural Sciences and Information Technologies (UP FAMNIT) in 2006, the University of Primorska gained its balance in natural sciences. 

With their complementarity, the study programmes at the faculty aim to establish a sphere where an integrated science can be created by applying the universal language of science (mathematics) in an optimum communication field (computer science).
